St. Patrick’s Day in Little Rock

Little Rock’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Little Rock hosted its annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, and ClanDonnell marched in it! It was, as always, sponsored by the Irish Cultural Society of Arkansas.

The parade was on Saturday, March 15th (which was NOT St. Patrick’s Day), starting near Dugan’s Pub in Little Rock. It looped around a bit before crossing the Arkansas River at the Main Street Bridge into North Little Rock. The parade ends shortly after passing Cregeen’s Irish Pub. Start at a pub, end at a pub. Made perfect sense to me.

But the event didn’t actually end with the parade. Bagpipers and Irish dancers (both O’Donovan and McCafferty) performed near the finish line.

ClanDonnell didn’t decorate a float or drive a green car. It does not have a marching band or bagpipes. No one associated with ClanDonnell has ever worn a leprechaun costume.

So what in the world with ClanDonnell do in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade? Just walked. And we high-fived kids, and invited adults to join us at Cregeen’s on St. Patrick’s Day. The grand master thought we were great. At the grandstand, she announced:

This is proof that our parade is first class. These folks came all the way from Michigan to be in it!

If you haven’t figured it out by now, we were Number 30 in the parade.
