ClanDonnell wins first place in the Reviewers Choice Book Awards Book reviewers at Reader Views combined their notes and comments for the books reviewed during 2013 and picked the top three in each of several categories. ClanDonnell Wins First Place

ClanDonnell wins first place in the 2014 Beverly Hills Book Awards! The first place was in the “History General” category. This doesn’t mean that ClanDonnell is a general history. This simply distinguishes books from Beverly Hills’ other history category “ History - United States”. We love it in whatever category. We don’t remember a Detroiter doing this well in Beverly Hills since Axel Foley, and he isn’t even a real person. Visit Beverly Hills Book Awards

Reviews of ClanDonnell

”Although there are many books about Ireland few delve into the heart and soul of its people and history. ClanDonnell is one such book, by writer David K. McDonnell. Casting aside dry academic descriptions of places, people and times past the book looks through the eyes of the McDonnell Clan and their descendants and cuts to the bone and sinew as to what made the Ireland it is today. (T)he book tells the tales of Ireland in a totally unique and engrossing way.”
5/5
“CLAN DONNELL is a well-written account of an Irish clan that was present at every major milestone and tragedy of the Irish people, of the North and South, Catholic and Protestant.

The Gaelic Knot of Irish History has been undone in these pages making it accessible to all readers. What may have started as genealogical curiosity has evolved into a significant historical work."
4.5/5
“ClanDonnell: A Storied History of Ireland by David McDonnell is history done well, very well. This epic story of Ireland is entertaining as well as informative, with a pleasant, easy-going authorial voice. At times it almost reads like an oral history as opposed to one that is thoroughly researched and excellently executed."
4/5
"an historical work of art"
"the stories enchant and engage"
"top ten list of must reads for Irish-Americans"
"tells Irish history through a unique lens"
"a lively voice with a well-timed sense of humor"

Celtic Canada feature

In my spare time I wrote an article for Celtic Canada on line magazine. It’s in the Spring, 2019 issue. The magazine covers “All Things Celtic – Coast to Coast”.

I titled the article Canada’s Worst Summer Ever because 1847 was indeed Canada’s worst summer.
