King’s Books & Doyle’s Public House

Tacoma’s Book Store & Pub Neighbors

King’s Books and Doyle’s Public House are next door to each other on St. Helens Avenue South in Tacoma. ClanDonnell went to both! We did an author-talk, book-signing, and story-telling session at King’s Books, followed by more stories at Doyle’s Public House on Monday, July 28th.

King’s Books features an eclectic collection of used, rare, and out-of-print books to go with its stock of new books. It’s also the home of some interesting book clubs. It also now features ClanDonnell.

Doyle’s Public House has a full menu of Irish, British, and American foods. It even has a “Shepherd’s Pie of the Month”. In April, when I booked the event, it was Corned Beef Pie: Diced corned beef, carrots, onions, cabbage, and stone-ground mustard in a seasoned white sauce. Crowned with mashed potatoes and melted Irish Dubliner white cheddar. Seems delicious. I don’t remember what the Shepherd’s Pie of the Month was in July – I simply remember that it was delicious and paired well with a pint of Guinness.

Thanks to Tacoma’s The News Tribune for publicizing the event, and to the promos at zevents.com and Weekly Volcano’s Walkie Talkie Blog. We even got a promo from the Boston Globe’s boston.com. Boston is, as best as I recollect, on the Atlantic Coast and in the Eastern Time Zone. Tacoma is on the west coast and in the Pacific Time Zone. Despite the promo, I don’t think anyone from Boston attended our storytelling event in Tacoma.
