Near the Cliffs of Moher
We told stories at many a pub while in Ireland.
Our best event, though, was at Gus O’Connor’s Pub in Doolin, County Clare. We told the “Tayman” story, which arose out of the vivid imagination of the late Eamon Kelly.
Interesting, though, was that the audience had never heard it before. Kelly told at on his Irish television show in the 1960s. ClanDonnell heard it in 2015 through the wonders of the internet. To the pub listeners, it was a fresh and funny story. It took five decades for the story to make the 6,700 mile round trip.
I actually learned more stories at Gus O’Connor’s than I told there. My favorite is about Doolin’s one-legged taxi driver.
The website notes that the pub was founded in 1832. Some of the original patrons are still there.
