Indy Irish Fest

Indianapolis, Indiana

The 2015 Indy Irish Fest in Indianapolis was September 18th to 20th.

We saw the festival’s lineup of bands and we couldn’t resist. We’ll be there along with Scythian, Socks in the Frying Pan, Makem and Spain, and many others.

The folks at the Indy Irish Fest kept ClanDonnell busy. We like being busy, but we may have been pushed to the edge!

We did four sets on Saturday and two more on Sunday. One set each day was at the Wee Folks area. Working with kids is a hoot, but keeping their attention in quite difficult. But we loved every minute of it. We dragged up much of our repertoire to keep audiences engaged.

Trivia:

Indianapolis is one of the few cities we can think of which was not founded by settlers. Nor was it named by settlers.

Indiana became a state in 1816, and the legislature needed a state capital. The legislature chose a site as near as possible to the precise geographical center of the state, even though almost no one lived there at the time. The land was part of the Delaware nation tribal land, but few tribe members lived in the area and the tribe relinquished its claim to the land.

Once the legislature decided upon a site, it needed to decide upon a name. It chose ‘Indianapolis’, combining the state name with ‘polis’ -the Greek word for city.
