I read this sentence in a local paper, and I had to re-read it several times to understand what a township board actually did. The board (of a township which will remain nameless) had discussed the advantages of countywide internet access. After thoroughly debating and considering the issue, here is what the board did:

”The Township passed a resolution authorizing the township to submit a proposal to the county for a pilot program.

Did the township commit to providing internet access? No.

Did it commit to countywide internet access? No.

Did it commit to a pilot program for countywide internet access? No.

Did it commit to submit a proposal for a pilot program for countywide internet access? No.

The resolution merely “authorized” the township to submit a proposal for a pilot program for countywide internet access.

I think the township board really pushed the envelope on this one.
