& The Blarney Stone in Onancock, Virginia
We were at the Book Bin in Onley – on Virginia’s Eastern Shore – on April 30, 2019. Wonderful bookstore, and wonderful audience. We told an hour or so of Irish tales to an engaged crowd, most of whom joined us for the after-party at The Blarney Stone.
Afterwards, we joined the staff of Book Bin and anyone foolish to come along for a pint or two of Guinness at The Blarney Stone Pub in nearby Onancock.
I was expecting an after-Book Bin relaxation session at the pub. I was in for a surprise. The pub had a microphone and amp set up. As soon as I walked into the door, the proprietors asked me to grab the mike and start telling stories.
I went with it, and maybe I work best when I’m not able to prepare. I told several stories and, to be modest, brought down the house. It was indeed a hoot. I must admit, the stories were a bit more risqué than those told at The Book Bin.
The Blarney Stone is indeed an authentic Irish Pub. It is large enough for a nice gathering but small enough to feel comfortable. The staff is wonderful and the calamari superb. Overall, a five star to me.
