One of my daughters moved to New Mexico this week and she will start her new job in a few days. In prep for the move, she and her mother called virtually every truck and trailer rental and moving vans in the Detroit area to compare prices.
My wife called one national rental company and asked: ”How much does it cost to rent a trailer one-way from Detroit to Albuquerque, New Mexico?”
The response from the clerk: ”Oh, we don’t allow our trailers to be used for international trips.”
The United States acquired a vast territory from Mexico as the prize for winning the Mexican-American War from 1846 to 1848. This territory ultimately became all or parts of the states of California, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah and Colorado.
New Mexico was admitted to the Union in 1912 as the country’s 47th state.
It is a healthy hike from Michigan, but it is not quite international.
